As Carlos and I have become more experienced travelers, we’ve developed a routine as we ease our way back into work-mode after a vacation. For us, it’s just as important to come back into our regular schedule as seamlessly as possible.
Hydration is important with any activity. It’s even more important if you are getting your system back into shape after a vacation. Your body is using every bit of energy to get back into equilibrium, especially if you’ve travelled across many time zones. Staying hydrated will help you get into the zone faster.
2. Get plenty of B-Vitamins in your system
B-Vitamins help to reduce fatigue in your body and increase brain function. Increased lethargy is one of the symptoms of jet-lag and the B-Vitamins boosts your energy naturally so that you can feel as energized as possible. We always have a bottle of B-vitamins in our medicine cabinet for this purpose. For an extra easy dose, buy a 5-Hour Energy shot and take it after coming back from vacation.
3. Get your body in a natural rhythm – only sleep at night to get into your normal sleep pattern
Do your best to stay up and wait until night time to sleep. Although you might be tired during the middle of the day, taking a nap might prolong your jet-lag because it will prevent your body from getting back to your normal sleeping pattern. It is best to stay up instead because you are letting your body know to adjust itself back to your normal schedule.
4. Work-out your extra energy
If you have problem sleeping at night, take some time to work out before you sleep. Working out will naturally tire you out and make it easier for you to fall asleep. The trick is to be tired enough for your body to need sleep to recover.
5. Eat healthy food
When you are travelling, you might be more exposed to germs, bacteria, or viruses from the plane or elsewhere. That’s why so many people get sick often after coming back from vacation. Eating healthy food will give you the nutrients necessary to increase your energy and strengthen your immune system.
6. Be patient with yourself and prioritize the most important tasks
The first 24 hours after coming back from vacation is going to be tough. It’s important to take it easy and take
care of yourself. Check the most time-sensitive emails first and make a list of priorities that you need to take
care of immediately.
7. Get plenty of sleep
After a full day, make sure to sleep early to get a full night’s rest. The more rest your body gets within the first few days, the easier your body and mind will recover. Staying up late or waking up early will only prolong your recovery time. Let your body clock re-set naturally.
